Initial thoughts on The Voice

The Voice is the brand new “reality” singing competition from BBC One which is set to compete directly with ITV’s Britain Got Talent in the prime-time television slot on Saturday night. My first initial impressions were not particularly great, I was not sold on the idea at first but then after a while the format grew on me and I now think that it is a refreshing take on the genre when compared to X-Factor and the other musical competitions out there.

Of course it was just the first show but the people they have found to sing are so much higher quality than the typical “find a star” routine that it is personally making it a lot more enjoyable. Jessie J, Will.I.Am, Danny O’Donoghue and the legendary Sir Tom Jones will certainly have their work cut out for them if they are going to win the show and the search to find the next UK talent.

When it is done well it is great to see ensembles on Britain’s Got Talent because it really does show the diverse nature of the program and here the Welsh choir Only Boys Aloud took to the stage which had a grand total of 133 of them and gave a modern take on a classical choir with all four judges being impressed with their performance.
